When it comes to working to lose stomach fat, the focus, for the most part, goes immediately to gym time. We put in hours and hours per week to reach our health goals, but far too often the nutritional aspect of our regimen gets neglected. Yes, to some it may seem to be common sense that the food you’re putting inside your body has a huge effect as to what you look like on the outside of your body. BUT, you’d be surprised at the amount of people that don’t have this concept
internalized, or maybe haven’t even thought about it. Wanting to lose stomach fat has a direct correlation with diet.
The first step to improving your eating habits is becoming aware of them. The best way to do this is to start a food journal. When you are writing down what you eat you notice patterns, bad habits, good habits, and you can make some sense of your caloric intake. There are numerous ways to track your food. For some it’s easiest to carry a pocket sized notebook with them, for others using an online database, or entering it in their smartphone makes the most sense. The key here is to find something that works for you, and that you’ll actually do. Buying a software program that will analyze your food intake each day will do you no good, if you only flip on your computer once every other week. Find whatever will help you stick to your goal to lose stomach fat.
One of the most efficient ways I’ve come across is to access the free resources that are available on the web. There are many online sites that you can join that will track your food, add your calories, and analyze the nutritional value of what you’re eating, at no cost to you! Each website has its pros and cons, but its all about finding what works best for you.
Most have an endless list of tools to help you analyze your intake, add your current weight, physical activity, goals, Etc. Most have a sizable food database available, and the option for you to add your own foods to the database if they aren’t listed.Keep in mind that if you aren’t so internet savvy a simple pen and paper will do the trick. Again, it’s whatever
works for you.
So, with all this great information is there a downside to journaling? Depending on your personality, you might consider it a hassle. You might think it’s time consuming. Some people don’t like to count calories, and be specific with their intake. It’s true that writing everything down can make you hypersensitive to the food you’re eating,
but is that really a negative thing? The general population is clueless when it comes to food value and nutrition. But, when over 65% of America is considered overweight or obese, siding with the general population might not get you where you want to go.
Try recording your food for a week…a day…a meal even. You might be surprised at what you write down. It could be a well needed kick-start into a healthier diet. Knowledge is power. Knowing what you’re eating will help you lose stomach fat.
